Just finished making this contraption. I call it a loop station for want of a better term. It’s the modern equivalent of a one-man-band rig. Instead of banjos, string and bass drums I’ve got an audio interface, a midi controller and a midi sound module hooked up to a laptop running a digital audio workstation (in this case, Ableton), all encased in a home-built flight case for mobility. Or, in other words, a guitar, a microphone and several dozen synthesisers at my fingertips. Lush.

Yey! My 3D model of Tintern Abbey has finally been accepted by Google Earth.

I’ve been submitting it, off and on, for a few years now but without success. The model, designed in Sketchup, has hitherto been too complicated to satisfy Google’s standards. After many compromises on the details I squeezed the file down to about a tenth of its original size and it squeezed under the bar. The arches are a bit angular now but at least it’s there for all to see.

To view the model you need to download Google Earth. Make sure the “3D Buildings” layer is ticked.

I figure that I haven’t paid enough attention to my home county until now. I love all the Marches counties, either side of the England/Wales border. But I’ve neglected Gloucestershire, mainly because it seems too familiar and workaday to me. Time to rediscover it.
